HELZEL Messtechnik specialises in HF systems and is the manufacturer of the unique Ocean Radar 'WERA', providing high-quality Ocean Current Maps for ranges of more than 200km. WERA is the only ocean radar that additionally provides maps of Significant Wave Height as well as Directional Wave Spectra within 50% of the current mapping range.

Why rely  on just single point measurements (buoys) when you can have access to area-wide data with the convenience of shore based instruments? The WERA HF radar systems with their very small antennas are easy to install and maintain.

The high-resolution current maps resolve even sub-mesoscale surface current structures. Diverse comparisons of surface currents measured by WERA with sub-surface currents (ADCPs) as well as Drifter show an excellent correlation. User reported data availability for current vectors were > 98%.

The combination of the real-time HF radar data with numerical ocean models offer new opportunities to improve the accuracy of oil spill drift prediction and search & rescue operations.
