The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has published details of its free ‘Living with ECDIS’ Seminars at Marintec China 2015, which have been updated to include the amended IHO ENC (Electronic Nautical Charts) Standards and the implications for shipowner.

The seminars will take place on Tuesday 1 December, Wednesday 2 December and Thursday 3 December 2015 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, and will be presented by Captain Paul Hailwood, a renowned expert on ECDIS and integrated bridge operations, and Thomas Mellor, UKHO’s head of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Support and Digital Standards, and Chairman of the ENC Working Group.

Mandarin translation will be provided throughout all seminars and they will take place in seminar room M40, located near the entrance/exit to Hall N2. The sessions will start at 13:30 each day and finish at 15:10.

The focus of the seminars are the ongoing requirements of ECDIS users, including how ship owners, operators manager and bridge teams can realise the full navigational benefits of ECDIS through effective ECDIS maintenance and management, in order to remain compliant and deliver improved situational awareness.

Key Topics will include:

  • ECDIS Maintenance, including the importance of software maintenance and recent software updates;
  • ECDIS Management, including practical procedures and policies and ADMIRALTY support publications
  • Chart Management, including chart coverage and maintenance, quality assurance and ISM requirements;
  • Legal requirements, including the latest ECDIS regulations, internal audits, Port State Control and vetting inspections.

Captain Paul Hailwood will draw upon his extensive experience in assisting shipping companies with the adoption and ongoing management of ECDIS, alongside Tom Mellor, who will explain the benefits of the updated IHO ENC Standards.

After each presentation, delegates will be invited to the UKHO stand N1D01 for refreshments and product demonstrations. Delegates will also be provided with two complimentary ADMIRALTY publications as future reference material. Information and delegate places bookings can be found online.
