Meritaito Awarded Mareano Survey Contract
The Norwegian Mapping Authority Hydrographic Service has contracted Meritaito for a survey project consisting of more than 7,500 square metres in the Barents Sea. The Mareano project, financed by the Norwegian government, is a national programme to map the seabed in the Norwegian waters out to the continental shelf.
Operations on international waters and in European marine traffic have required investments in Meritaito’s vessel fleet and equipment. Investments in converting buoy tender Letto (image) into a hydrographic survey vessel were started about a year ago with an aim to bid for international hydrographic survey projects.
MSV Letto fitted with the latest survey equipment began the survey at the beginning of May near Bjørnøya. Meritaito will launch another vessel for the project later.
