Saipem Selects Tritech Sensors

Italian oil & gas industry contractor Saipem has selected Tritech’s Gemini 620pd multibeam profiling system for its work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs). Saipem has purchased a suite of Tritech products comprising Gemini 620pd sonar, surface control units (SCUs) and Gemini Hubs, for accurate time-stamped data.

The Gemini 620pd sonar will run in a dual-head configuration, to provide a wide swathe of high-resolution bathymetry data. Operating at 620kHz and a range resolution of 10mm alongside an update rate of up to 50Hz, the Gemini 620pd is suited for use on WROVs. Saipem is to deploy the system as part of its operations on the Shah Deniz Stage 2 (SD2) Project in Azerbaijan.

More Sonar for WROVs

Saipem has also recently purchased additional Tritech products for use on its new Sonsub Innovator 2.0 WROVs. The products purchased for these new WROVs include the industry-standard SeaKing mechanical scanning profiling sonar, real-time Gemini 720i multibeam imaging sonar (image) and SCUs.

Gemini 620pd is a high-resolution multibeam echosounder and with an angular resolution of 0.5 deg. Standard features include automated bottom tracking, variable gate setting and gate tilting as well as roll compensation.
