Hydro12 – Taking Care of the Sea
Societies HSB - Rotterdam by Night as seen from the SS Rotterdam-064The conference Hydro12 is to take off. The annual event will take place from 13 to 15 November 2012 onboard the permanently moored SS Rotterdam in Rotterdam.
Abstracts have been judged and the programme has been made. A total of 66 abstracts were submitted and the contents committee judged the overall quality as high. They have now been scheduled as oral and poster presentations. With the line-up of keynote speakers: Peter Harris (Australia), involved in the GeoHab programme; Steve Shipman MBE,  was vice-president for the IHB and also involved in the joint IHO / FIG / ICA Advisory Board on Standards of Competence for Hydrographic Surveyors and Nautical Cartographers; and Terje Torsnes of the Geological Survey of Norway, the delegates can look forward to an interesting conference!
Alongside the conference, the Hydro12 organisation will facilitate companies in getting in touch with hydrographic surveyors and related professionals, making them familiar with the recent developments in technology, software and services.  Many companies have already chosen to be represented at the trade show with a booth (which we have called the single beam package). There are still options available and all the information can be found on the conference website.
Registration is now open and delegates are encouraged to register making use of the EUR 60 early bird savings. The SS Rotterdam is also a hotel and the organisation has arranged a discounted rate when booking for the conference. All information, including online registration, can be found on the website: www.hydro12.com

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV

It's not an AUV but a UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
