Dutch Pavilion at OI 2004
At Oceanology International 2004 was the largest Dutch Pavilion until now. A lot of corporate members of the HSB participated in this great initiative. In total, seventeen parties presented their latest product, new projects and services. The participants presented themselves with the support of the EVD as Dutch Ocean Group (www.dutchoceangroup. nl). They welcomed visitors in the Holland lounge. The stand emphasised the complementarities of their specialist skills. The joint presentation attracted more visitors and stimulated networking between the visitors and participants.

Wednesday morning the Netherlands Pavilion welcomed a delegation headed by the Netherlands Deputy Minister of Defence, Mr Cees van der Knaap, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom, the Director of Rijkswaterstaat North Sea Directorate and the Hydro-grapher of the Royal Netherlands Navy. After an introduction by Mr Frans van Dongen, coordinator of the Netherlands Pavilion, the Deputy Minister met each member of the Dutch Ocean Group and was introduced to their latest developments in services and products.

TNO FEL, Imtech, SeaDarQ and Geo-Resources Consulting demonstrated their innovative technologies on board. Mr. van der Knaap showed great interest in the impressive integrated bridge lay out and the high standard of the accommodation.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gauge height at the Williston gauge was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgauge at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
