Description: Makai Ocean Engineering is hiring a Physicist, Engineer or Applied Mathematician with a graduate degree and very strong skills in applied math, numerical models and programming. Working with the lead developer at Makai, the candidate will be brought up to speed on existing complex numerical hydrodynamic models developed in FORTRAN (and some C++) used in the commercial and military sectors for towing and/or installing submarine cables or arrays. The candidate will initially work on a collaborative two-man team to maintain and extend the capabilities of Makai’s hydrodynamic models, but over time it is expected he will take the lead of this group. Most work will be done at the Makai Research Pier, located in Waimanalo, Hawaii but infrequent international travel may be required. Requirements: Graduate degree in physics, engineering or applied math with experience in numerical modeling. U.S. Citizenship highly desirable. Additional desirable assets include excellent communication skills with the ability to write progress reports clearly and concisely. Applicant should be a team player and be self motivated. Typical employees of the numerical modeling positions are very capable, focused, and are problem solvers in terms of applying models to solve problems brought to our attention by the U.S. Navy, telecommunications, and gas & oil industries. Please send cover letter and resume to Dr. Jose Andres @ Jose.Andres@makai.com.
