US Industry Award for Navionics

Navionics' Platinum electronic chart has won the 2007 National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) Industry Award in the Marine Specialty category. Awarded at the annual NMEA Convention & Expo, the honour recognised Platinum charts for excellence in innovation, design, performance and reliability in marine navigation.

 

Platinum is the first multi-dimensional charting and navigation product available for chartplotters. It combines navigation chart detail with satellite and high-aerial photo overlays, 3-Dimensional bathymetric views, panoramic photos of ports and marinas, port services, pilot books, points of interest such as Hotels, Dining, Banks, Hospitals, and more. Platinum Charts are available in Navionics' XL3-size coverage on 2GB CF and SD media cards compatible with today's leading chartplotter manufacturers such as Geonav, Humminbird, Lowrance, Northstar and Raymarine.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
