Tenders are invited for Individual Consultant For Baseline Survey For the Straits of Malacca and Singapore The International Maritime Organization (IMO) now invites interested applicants to apply for the consulting position on Baseline Survey for the Marine Electronic Highway (MEH) Demonstration Project and will be based at the Project Management Office (PMO) located in Batam Indonesia. The three-month assignment for Baseline Survey Consultant shall start on 7 April 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. IMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for regulating and promoting maritime safety and the prevention reduction and control of marine environment degradation from sea-based activities including dumping of wastes at sea. IMO is the executing agency of the MEH Demonstration Project which aims to establish a regional mechanism in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore for enhanced maritime safety and marine environment protection. The Terms of Reference for the position of Baseline Survey Consultant are provided in Annex I. Terms of Reference The overall objective of this assignment is to carry out a baseline survey for the MEH Demonstration Project to establish a maritime and environmental profile of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore area in support of the development of a regional MEH system. Qualifications and Experience The prospective Consultant will require an appropriate balance of management scientific and technical skills shared vision knowledge of the region experience on baseline surveys in the context of multidisciplinary projects and good communication and strong interpersonal skills. Candidates should have demonstrated working experience in projects involving baseline surveys maritime safety marine navigation technology marine environment protection maritime information technology including economics business and marine affairs. Candidates should also be familiar with international conventions such as IMO conventions and UNCLOS. Qualifications should include: 1. A Master s degree with specialization in maritime administration maritime technology navigation marine environment management marine engineering information technology. 2. At least 10 years' professional experience preferably in the area of navigation marine environment management as well as impact assessment baseline WORLD BANK
