Safe Software selected for the "Cool Vendor report"

  17/04/2008
Gartner, Inc. has named Safe Software in its "Cool Vendors in Data Management and Integration, 2008" report. The report was published on 28 March 2008 and written by Ted Friedman, Andreas Bitterer and Donald Feinberg. According to the report, "Contemporary data integration tools generally lack functionality to deal with geographic and spatial data at a detailed level, and this represents a challenge for organisations working with these complex data types."

Don Murray, President of Safe Software says that for over a decade, Safe Software has focused on addressing the challenges organisations face when looking to integrate their diverse spatial data assets and is honored to be evaluated as a 'Cool Vendor' by such a highly respected analyst firm.

Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner's listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner defines a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: innovative, enable users to do things they couldn't do before; impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); intriguing, have caught Gartner's interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.

Hydrographic Survey for Riverbed Erosion

U.S. Geological Survey were out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyzes the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gage height at the Williston gage was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgage at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
