| The United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO) has publicly recognised a cadet at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) for his top navigational skills. Midshipman Christopher Page won what has become a coveted prize for being the best performing cadet in the Bridge Trainer Assessment and Navigation Training in the cadet's Passing Out Phase of training at the Dartmouth-based college. |

Rear Admiral Ian Moncrieff, who is the UK National Hydrographer and UKHO Deputy Chief Executive, visited the college to present the prize - a framed copy of a UKHO chart of Dartmouth Harbour surveyed by Captain Martin White RN in 1826 - and spent some time with the cadets and BRNC team in the college and afloat in one of their sail training yachts to see more about how training is now being shaped to take account of modern digital techniques for the safe conduct of navigation.
The Admiral gave a short speech to the staff and cadets of BRNC on the quality and relevance of what they learn at BRNC and how it will not only lay the foundations for their first seagoing appointments but also endure for their RN careers.
After meeting with Commodore Martin Alabaster, the Commodore of BRNC, R Adm Moncrieff had a tour of the Navigation Department and the recently upgraded Bridge Simulator, where he had discussions on the navigation and the officer of the watch training delivered to cadets. He also took the opportunity to visit the recently opened RN Leadership Academy West and was updated on their current curriculum which has potential to assist in training with Leadership and Management skills for UKHO employees - an issue that is being followed-up.
