In support of the charity Epilepsy Bereaved, David and Chris Goldsmith made a cycle tour from Land's End to JohnO'Groat. A tour of about 1,600km, accomplished in 15 days. The finish line was crossed on 17 May 2008 at 15.30. Contributions for the challenge exceed GBP9,000 (USD17,750).
The brothers of whom David works as oceanographer with RS Aqua, drove about 15 days and their reports on the website show a great energy. Supporting the charity still is possible through the website of the cyclists, contributing to research of epilepsy.
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
