Electronic Devices Inc. (VA, USA) has released an advanced depth sounder test set with new features. The DSTS-5A features include: Electronic attenuator with increased range of 86 dB; Dual frequency operation; Tracks and responds to dual frequency sounders accurately; Depth resolution of 1 mm; Total depth to 99000 feet; and Internal space for custom load installation.

Other features are:

- Same RS-232 command structure as the DSTS-4A for plug and run compatibility with existing DSTS-4A test setups and software.

- Two-year calibration cycle does not require disassembly of the unit. Calibration is done using RS-232 and required adjustments are internally stored in eeprom.

Additional options for the research and design lab include:

- Multi-frequency pulse capability. Chirp capability for sub-bottom profilers.

- Individual amplitude and frequency control of multiple echoes.

- Heave and doppler simulation.
