The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (UK) is the stage for Ocean Business 2009 from 31 March to 2 April 2009. The event hosts an exhibition with more than 200 companies, training and demonstration sessions. In conjunction with this event, the conference Offshore Survey 2009 takes place, addressing technical and business issues in the global field of offshore surveying. A new element is the recruitment event Ocean Careers 2009.
There must also be time to relax and to network - that's why the organisers pay attention to social events. For every evening, an event is scheduled.
Registration for the event is free and from now possible through the Ocean Business website.
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
