  10/12/2008
Applanix has launched POSPac MMS (Mobile Mapping Suite) 5.2. New functionality includes full land-based mobile mapping support, making POSPac MMS 5.2 fully capable of processing mobile mapping data obtained from air, sea, and land platforms. POSPac MMS 5.2 now offers customers lowered costs, less complexity, and improved results in the execution of all mobile mapping mission types.

"The release of POSPac MMS 5.2 with full support for land-based operations represents a major step forward not only for our land mapping customers, but also for those customers who have mobile mapping operations in multiple environments. For them, POSPac MMS 5.2 means only having to purchase and learn a single software program, saving them time and money," said Steven Woolven, President of Applanix.

In addition to adding full support for land-based mapping, POSPac MMS 5.2 includes a Batch Manager that allows for the processing of multiple POSPac MMS projects at one time, the Applanix Smart Select technology which automatically selects, downloads and imports the best available Applanix SmartBaseTM network of reference receivers, full support for the BD960 with OmniSTAR VBS/XP/HP for AV and LV data that have OmniSTAR corrections enabled, and support for Windows XP/VISTA 32-bit and 64-bit.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gauge height at the Williston gauge was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgauge at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
