L-3 Klein has released the digital Side Scan Sonar, the System 3000H. In response to demand, the System 3000H combines the capabilities of L-3 Klein’s most popular, best-selling System 3000 Side Scan Sonar, with the capabilities of L-3 Klein’s Model 3900 Search & Recovery System.

 

 

The System 3000H Side Scan Sonar allows interfaces for use with a magnetometer, pressure sensor and acoustic positioning with the added capability of higher resolution imaging with selectable frequencies of 445 kHz and 900kHz.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
