Prestigous Engineering Award for Kongsberg

  19/12/2008
Kongsberg Intellifield, having been nominated along with nine other technology innovators has won the coveted engineering award, 'Ingeniørbragden', which is presented annually by Norway's leading industry technology magazine, 'Teknisk Ukeblad'.

There is a strict nomination criterion for the award. Candidates must represent an excellent and innovative solution to a technological or social challenge. Candidates are also requested to show the commercial viability or social impact of their product. The winner is chosen by a public vote, but this year, for the first time, a jury of technical experts also evaluated each candidate, the results of which were combined with the public vote. Several members of the jury gave their reaction to Teknisk Ukeblad:

Teknisk Ukeblad Editor in Chief, Tommy Rudihagen, commented: "Kongsberg Intellifield is at the forefront when it comes to open solutions, facilitating collaboration on different processes onboard rigs. This equipment is a commercial breakthrough for technology, with great significance for the Norwegian economy. Integrated operations will become increasingly important in the future, and Kongsberg Intellifield represents the most advanced environment and technology within this field."

"Integrated Operations is a silent revolution, determining the future for the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The Nintendo generation is now in Integrated Operations, working with qualified, real-time decision-making. There is great value to working in real-time, which is the key to it all," said Per Terje Vold, OLF.

Espen Kristensen, Chief Operating Officer of Kongsberg Intellifield commented: "We are delighted that Teknisk Ukeblad has recognised our contribution to the field of intelligent collaboration and winning this award is very important to us. 'Ingeniørbragden' is a prestigious award, and to have won it against so many highly qualified candidates is recognition of what we have achieved so far. Although we are a small technical environment within Kongsberg Maritime, we contribute towards setting the standard for oil and gas world wide."

Hydrographic Survey for Riverbed Erosion

U.S. Geological Survey were out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyzes the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gage height at the Williston gage was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgage at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
