Fugro Geos:SUT Msc Award

  19/03/2009
Working with The Society for Underwater Technology (SUT) Fugro GEOS offers an Award of GBP500 for the best MSc project or thesis work in physical oceanography, applied oceanography and/or meteorology. The winning MSc student for 2008 will be presented with the Award on 31st March, the first day of the Ocean Careers 2009 event, being staged alongside Ocean Business 2009 at the National Oceanography Centre, Southampton.

Fugro GEOS believes in supporting and investing in education: to broaden the awareness of oceanography and meteorology in the educational sector, to attract students into this sector, to encourage those already pursuing it and to highlight future career prospects to students.

"There could be no more logical place than Ocean Careers 2009 for the presentation of this Award," says Garry Mardell, Operations Director at Fugro GEOS who will be making the award. "We are delighted that the organisers invited us to use the event in this way, and are looking forward to meeting the winning student on 31 March."

"We are grateful to Fugro GEOS for their continuing involvement with educational awards," says Ian Gallett, Chief Executive of SUT. "They are also involved in our Awards programme in the USA. Encouraging young people in this way is vitally important, as is encouraging them to plan a career in the ocean technology, marine science and offshore industries."

"We are pleased to have incorporated the Award into Ocean Careers, it will be a great addition to the event," says event organiser Versha Carter, Director of Intelligent Exhibitions.
