Wine Trail Incentive to Talk

  01/04/2009
The Tuesday afternoon was dedicated to an informal wine tasting all over the exhbition floor of Ocean Business 2009. A great number of stands hosted wines and visitors were encouraged to walk by and taste them. Blindly, they had the request of finding out which wines were on which stand. The tasting notes were of good assistance but it still was not an easy task... asking for a second opinion.

Comparing notes on the wine

There was music in the air, brought by several young musicians playing cheerful melodies. They had to play hard to raise over the sound of people talking about wine and other business - ocean business as well. The discussions about the wines sometimes went on to expertise level - however some people invented handy ways to get a clue of the wine they actually were drinking.

There is no better impression to give than the images!

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gauge height at the Williston gauge was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgauge at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
