| During the Ocean Business dinner, Mr Richard Burt, Chairman of the Association of Maritime Industries (AMSI) Council, presented the Business Person of the Year award to John Partridge of Sonardyne International. According to the adjudicating panel, Partridge has made a significant contribution to the business of marine science and technology. | |

During the 1960s, John Partridge was one of the three pioneers of the oceanic industry. Subsequently, he started Sonardyne in 1971 which company grew to a position of a market leader through a focused approach on product quality and in the same time continuing developing in technical way, maintaining a keen eye for sound business principles.
John appeared to be speechless when accepting the award, but to Hydro International he did let know that the employees of Sonardyne truly deserve the recognition for all achievements of the company.
The dinner was then served in a positive ambiance, with a surprising performance by the string quartet Siren. They already welcomed the guests with a classical concert, later they re-entered the scene for a rather modern performance. This was very appreciated.

Hydrographic Survey for Riverbed Erosion |
U.S. Geological Survey were out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyzes the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
