Increased Slick Sleuth Sales15/04/2009 |
| OSIL (Ocean Scientific International Limited), are seeing increased sales of Slick Sleuths Oil Spill Detection and Alarm Systems for compliance monitoring of outfalls, harbours, refineries and rigs, marinas and fuel transfer stations. |
|
Slick Sleuth Oil Spill Detection & Alarm Systems are used for immediate detection, early warning alert, containment and prevention of accidental spills - averting environmental damage, costly cleanup, and possible fines or regulatory penalties. The optical sensor detects small amounts of oil and can be configured to automatically shut off pumps or valves, activate alarms and personnel notification.
Slick Sleuth's non-contact design is ideal for remote deployment in rugged settings such as offshore, harbours, inland waterways, industrial spillways, sumps and separators. Slick Sleuth is highly sensitive to the detection of crude, turbine, lube, hydraulic, fuel and most other hydrocarbon derivatives. Slick Sleuth is mounted above the water facilitating ease of installation and eliminating O & M expense. The system is also suited for spill monitoring over ground, concrete, or wet/dry drainages, wherever spill detection is warranted.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion |
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
