Instrumentation Package for Floating Wind Turbine

  29/04/2009
Innova AS of Norway is about to complete the delivery of the instrumentation package for the floating wind turbine. The instrumentation includes strain gauges for the 6 mooring pins and almost 30 others locations on the submerged structure, D-GPS, an iXSea Octans fibre optic gyro and vertical reference, tank level measurement, barometer, Miros range finder for wave height measurement, and a specially developed communications and logging system with required custom developed software.

Innova AS also delivers the data network onboard the Hywind structure, including interfaces towards the systems delivered by Siemens, and also the interface towards the umbilical connecting Hywind to shore.

StatoilHydro has initiated the Hywind consept to be able to take the wind industry into deeper waters, and will now install the first unit offshore for a 2 year test period starting the autumn 2009.

The unit will have a height of 65 metes from the sea level to the center of the turbine, a turbine diameter of 80 m and peak production capacity of 2,3 MW.

The turbine will be located offshore Karmøy, West Norway in the summer 2009: Installation will be at a water depth of 200-220 m, and will be the world's first full-scale offshore floating wind turbine.

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV

It's not an AUV but a UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
