OI 2010 Call for Papers

The organisers of Oceanology International 2010 are already building up the conference programme. If you like to present at this event, the time to submit your paper has come. Deadline to submit abstracts is 31st July 2009.

 

  

Oceanology International 2010 represents an excellent opportunity via its extensive technical programme to showcase the latest technical developments and thinking in the marine science and ocean technology world. The Oceanology Committee encourages you to submit abstracts in

the following categories:

 

Navigation & Positioning - Committee Head Rob Balloch, Sonardyne

Hydrography/Geophysics - Committee Head Andy W Hill, BP America

Marine Environment - Committee Head Paul Holthus, World Ocean Council (WOC)

Geotechnics - Committee Head Pat Power, Fugro

Ocean Observing & Forecasting - Committee Head Professor Ralph Rayner

 

OI2010 is scheduled for 9th to 11th March 2010, in the Excel Centre in London (UK).

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
