Robert Thresher Keynote Address

Dr. Robert Thresher PhD, PE NREL Research Fellow is confirmed as keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual Ocean Energy for New England Conference, to be held on 17th September 2009 in Hyannis (MA, USA). He will address the current status and potential of offshore renewable energy.
 

 

Mr. Thresher was longtime director of the National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), was appointed to the position of NREL Wind Energy Research Fellow on 1st April 2008.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
