Boskalis Wins Australian LNG Project

Boskalis Australia, a subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. has been awarded the contract for the construction of a port for the Gorgon LNG project off the coast of Western Australia. The contract value is approximately EUR500 million and was awarded by Chevron Australia in cooperation with Kellogg Joint Venture - Gorgon. Work is set to commence early 2010 and it is due to be completed by the end of 2011.
 

 

The project includes the design and construct of a port including a Material Offloading Facility at Barrow Island, 50km northwest off the coast of Western Australia. Various dredging & marine contracting activities will be constructed under the responsibility of Boskalis. A roll-on-roll-off facility will be constructed in addition to 200 metres of quay walls and mooring dolphins. Furthermore, Boskalis has been assigned the logistical and program management responsibility for part of the basic infrastructure. The project will be executed with a combination of a jumbo cutter, a large hopper and backhoes.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
