IMarEST to Hold Ship Propulsion Conference

  05/11/2009
Ship propulsion will come under the conference spotlight on Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th January when the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) holds a two-day conference at its London headquarters.

Chaired by Dr John Carlton, Marine Technology & Investigations, Lloyd's Register and Visiting Professor City of London University, conference speakers will be discussing the latest developments in sessions on the subjects of Prime Movers: Today's Challenges; The Way Ahead; Design Relationships; and informative Case Studies. One of IMarEST's popular Stanley Gray Lectures, themed to tie in with the scope of the conference, will be held in the early evening of the first day of the Ship Propulsion Conference. This will be followed by the conference reception, providing an ideal networking opportunity for conference delegates and speakers attending the lecture.

"It is always tempting fate to describe anything as a "one-stop shop" but this is a truly all-embracing conference on the important topic of the future of ship propulsion systems," says Dr Marcus Jones, IMarEST's Chief Executive. "We look forward to welcoming delegates to our headquarters in Coleman Street in the heart of the City of London in January next year."

Confirmed speakers over the two days include Ed Fort (Manager Engineering Systems Marine Product Development, Lloyd's Register); Eric Lewis (Power Electrics Consultant, Converteam UK Ltd); Mike Bowker CBE (Rolls-Royce); Dr Ir Christian Veldhuis (Project Manager, MARIN); Do Ligtelijn (Manager Propulsor Technology, Wärtsilä Netherlands BV); Dr Stephen Turnock (Reader in Maritime Fluid Dynamics, School of Engineering Sciences, University of Southampton); Professor Anthony Molland (Emritus Professor of Ship Design, School of Engineering Sciences, University of Southampton); Dejan Radosavljevic (Fluid Dynamics Manager, Lloyd's Register); Professor Dr Ir Tom van Terwisga (Principal Researcher, MARIN and Visiting Professor, Delft University of Technology); Lauri Tiainen (Product Manager, Azipod, ABB Oy); and Professor Robert Wood (Director, National Centre for Advanced Tribology Southampton) as well as speakers from Greenwave, Converteam UK and Ricardo.

Further information will be available at www.imarest.org later in the autumn. In the meantime, enquiries should be addressed to the IMarEST Events Department at 80 Coleman Street, London EC2R 5BJ, UK (events@imarest.org).
