New Dutch Oil & Gas Event

  03/02/2010
A new oil, gas and technology event is being scheduled for 4th to 6th October 2010. Schiedam Offshore Event 2010 (SOE 2010) is set to be an alternative to other European offshore conferences and exhibitions. The location for this inaugural event is Schiedam, right at the heart of Europe's petrochemical industry and just a stone's throw away from the North Sea exploration fields, drilling rigs and Europe's largest refineries.

The event's location puts it right in the middle of surrounding major end users, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and engineering companies, many of whom will be taking part in this new conference and exhibition. Delegates from Brazil, India and the Caspian as well as many of the world's oil & gas regions are expected to exhibit and attend the event.

There are significant major investments on the horizon in gas distribution infrastructure, LNG landing and storage, as well as deep sea exploration and SOE 2010 will be a meeting place for players looking to get involved in these new projects. The event is a combination of a global industry exhibition and international conference. Topics at the conference will include importance of new-found energy reserves in countries like Brazil, Russia and India, efficiency in oil and gas exploration and renewable energy, power generation, waste recovery and geophysical exploration.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gauge height at the Williston gauge was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgauge at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
