Trimble Forms Mapping & GIS Industry Solutions Group22/03/2010 |
| Trimble has formed a new industry solutions group within its Mapping & GIS Division. The new group, known as the Market Solutions Team, is to work with strategic customers in key industries such as utilities, natural resources, transportation and municipal government to develop advanced data use solutions for field workers involved in the collection, management and utilization of geospatial information. |

Over the last 30 years, Trimble has developed a portfolio of market-leading hardware and software products focused on the field data collection of fixed assets using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. Today, the success of these products has led to the need for a complementary set of solutions for an ever-growing number of field workers who leverage those assets in their daily business operations. “Over the next 10-12 years, our company plans to roll out GIS and GPS applications for managing our geospatial assets to many field workers who previously worked with pen and paper,” said Erik Henderson, project manager, Mobile GIS for CSX Corporation, one of the largest freight railroads in North America. “These hardware and software solutions must be simple to use, easy to maintain and tailored to the specific needs of our employees.” Read more about: Positioning software mapping GIS Website: http://www.trimble.com/mgis/market_solutions Supplier: Trimble Navigation Ltd More news from this supplier: Precise Positioning Contributes to World Championship Victory Trimble to Acquire OmniSTAR Land-based Map the Spill with Mobile App Wetland Delineation System Dual-Antenna GNSS Receiver Module VRS Now in Estonia Increasing Productivity Marine Construction Receivers Trimble Strengthens 3D Scanning Portfolio Trimble GNSS Reference Receiver Award for Brazilian Hydrographic Paper Demonstrating "Deeper Understanding" First Real-Time Seafloor Earthquake Observatory Theme Hydrography Day 2012 International Cooperation Finistere and Mediterranean Bathymetric Lidar Surveys Precise Positioning For BP Vessels DP Inertial Navigation System for Drillship Plug-and-work Protocol Adopted Simulator Models Complex Sea Currents Monitoring the Shipwrecked Concordia Comments (0): |

Hydrographic Survey for Riverbed Erosion |
U.S. Geological Survey were out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyzes the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
