AMSI Business Survey Points to Buoyant Outlook29/03/2010 |
| The Association of Marine Scientific Industries (AMSI) has conducted a second survey focused on UK companies operating primarily in Marine Science and Technology (MST) activities. The survey was conducted at Oceanology International 2010, held at ExCel Exhibition Centre, London in March 2010, which boasted a record-breaking attendance of over 500 exhibiting companies. |
|
The data was collected from 80 UK companies using a questionnaire which was presented in person, by a researcher, to individual senior managers at their trade stands. This second report will allow comparison with last year's data (), identifying trends in marine science and technology business.
Although the data is yet to be analysed, an overall positive outlook for the future of the MST market was noted. A considerable number of companies forecast an increase in the MST market over the next 12 months with, understandably, ‘Renewables' being the most commonly predicted new market area expected to increase over the next 12 months.
• 80 UK based companies were surveyed
This early review of the survey highlights a refreshing confidence in the industry from companies, in spite of these recessionary times.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion |
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
