SeaBat 7125-SV for Clydeside Surveys08/04/2010 |
| Clydeside Surveys have awarded RESON a contract to upgrade their present SeaBat 7125 mounted on their Cheetah Marine build vessel to a SeaBat 7125-SV. The system will be used for shallow water hydrographic and engineering surveys in Qatar, where Clydeside Surveys have won their first contract. This project will be operated by the new Middle East office in Dubai. |

Clydeside Surveys specialises in all forms of hydrographic survey from multibeam bathymetric surveys to side scan sonar, shallow seismic surveys and more general oceanography including ADCP work. Continuing to work closely with RESON, the upgrade will follow previous purchase of SeaBat 7125 and SeaBat 8125.
SeaBat 7125-SV offers a number of new and unique features. The new transceiver provides an integrated multiport serial card and is optionally available with PDS2000 pre-installed for data acquisition and display as well as data processing on the same hardware platform. Four video outputs allow multiple survey and helm displays to be run. Roll stabilization and variable swath coverage of up to 140° featuring 200kHz/400kHz frequencies offers the preferred combination of swath and resolution.
A real-time uncertainty output from the SeaBat 7125 may be used in PDS2000, along with information from other sensors to calculate a TPE (Total Propagated Error). Soundings may be filtered by setting either the relevant IHO order or by defining a custom vertical error limit. Other new features in SeaBat 7125-SV include roll stabilisation, XYZ offsets for flexible transducer installations, quality filter and advanced diagnostic which increase survey efficiency. Further, AutoPilot uses sonar tuning values from a default or user-generated look-up table for hands-free sonar operation.

MCA on Surveying the British Coast |
Rob Spillard explains how the MCA is conducting hydrographic surveys, including the history of British hydrographic surveying, latest developments in technology and wreck research projects, sometimes accompanied by a BBC TV camera crew. This movie includes an example of the discovery of two sunken WWI submarines off the Orkney Islands.
