Fluid Imaging Exporter of the Year

  20/04/2010
Laboratory and process instrumentation manufacturer Fluid Imaging Technologies (USA) has earned the 2010 Maine International Trade and Investment Award as Exporter of the Year. To be presented by the Maine International Trade Center on 3rd June 2010 as part of its annual Trade Day event, the Exporter of the Year award recognises Fluid Imaging Technologies as the Maine-based manufacturer that has most consistently demonstrated a commitment to international trade through increased exports of an innovative product or process.

The company manufactures the automated FlowCAM particle imaging and analysis system, which takes hundreds of high-resolution, digital images of individual particles and cells in a fluid in seconds, measures their size, shape, sphericity and dozens of other parameters in real time and saves the images and data for analysis using proprietary image management software. In recording its 10th consecutive record year in 2009 en route to this award, the company expanded its network of representation to more than 25 firms worldwide, created seven full-time positions and earned overseas orders from Nestle, Switzerland; GlaxoSmithKline, United Kingdom; the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India and the Chongqing Institute of Environmental Science, Chongqing, China, the lead environmental agency managing the Three Gorges Dam. Exports topped 60% of FlowCAM revenues for the year and the patented particle analyzer is currently in operation on all seven continents.

"Fluid Imaging is not only deserving of this award, but is an exciting example of how Maine companies can innovate and successfully develop global markets," says Janine Bisaillon-Cary, Director International Trade, State of Maine and President, Maine International Trade Center.

The company was also named the New England Region Exporter of the Year by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA) in 2009, citing its success in developing overseas markets for the FlowCAM.
