IMarEST New Marine Partner Aims for Environment29/04/2010 |
| Curbing emissions and enhancing cost effectiveness lie at the heart of work programmes for many in the maritime industry, so it is highly relevant that Ricardo, the latest organisation to become an Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) Marine Partner, is heavily involved in ship efficiency, energy storage assessment and clean technology. |
|
"We are launching a consortium on Ship Efficiency and Energy Storage Assessment and are talking to IMarEST about becoming a partner in this consortium," says Yann Rageul, Project Director Marine Sector of Ricardo UK Ltd. "As an established leader in engineering services delivering emissions reduction solutions and novel technology we understand the challenges facing the marine industry. Becoming an IMarEST Marine Partner enables us to increase awareness of all that we have to offer to help vessel owners conform to emissions legislation, improve ship efficiency, and reduce fuel consumption while minimising capital investment. We are also able to help them overcome the challenges of selecting the best propulsion architecture.
Ricardo addresses all the industry drivers with a team of more than 1500 engineers with expertise covering all aspects of energy management including propulsion systems, auxiliary power units, hybrid propulsion configuration, electrical architecture, energy storage and intelligent ship management.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion |
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
