US East Coast Seismic Reprocessing Project04/06/2010 |
| Spectrum has commenced a major seismic reprocessing project offshore the East (Atlantic) Coast, USA. The project comprises 19,000km of vintage 2D seismic data which was acquired before the leasing and drilling moratorium was implemented in the mid 1980's. The decision to reprocess such a large volume of data was made in response to the recent announcement by the Department of the Interior to begin the environmental analysis ahead of geological and geophysical activities offshore the eastern seaboard of the US. |

Hydrographic Survey for Riverbed Erosion |
U.S. Geological Survey were out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyzes the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
