IMarEST at Posidonia07/06/2010 |
| The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) is looking forward with great anticipation to the 22nd Posidonia Exhibition (7-11 June). During the five days of this year's biennial event, the organisers expect the Hellenikon Exhibition Centre to welcome more than 17,000 trade visitors, VIPs and government officials, and to host 1,850 exhibitors from 87 countries, setting new Posidonia records in attendance. |

"Our institute is relevant to every one of those visitors and exhibitors," explains Dr Marcus Jones, Chief Executive of IMarEST. "The IMarEST team on the stand (Number: 291) will have a busy time updating them on our activities and all that we have to offer. In partnership with BCTQ, one of our Marine Partners, we will be hosting a drinks reception on Thursday 10 June from 16.00-18.00 at which all are welcome. Networking is key to our industry and this reception will provide a marvellous opportunity for catching up with old friends and acquaintances and making new contacts."
The stand will also be a font of information on IMarEST's promotions and forthcoming events, which include Autumn 2010 conferences on Condition Based Maintenance, Ship Powering Alternatives, and Ship Noise and Vibration; the numerous benefits of individual membership and of joining the rapidly growing Marine Partners initiative. The IMarEST has an active Greek Joint Branch with RINA. Further information and contact details are available on the IMarEST website. Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion |
Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.
