Rovdrill Contract for Seafloor Geoservices

  14/07/2010
Seafloor Geoservices Inc (SGI), part of the Triton Group, has entered into a deal with TSmarine to supply their new generation remotely operated seafloor geotechnical system for use in one of the world's largest mineral survey projects.

The Rovdrill 3 system has been selected for the Nautilus Minerals 2010 seafloor massive sulphide (SMS) drilling programme in the Bismarck Sea, off Papua New Guinea. It is a third-generation remotely operated seafloor drilling system, with full geotechnical sampling and in-situ data acquisition capabilities, including the capability to drill 75mm core holes in excess of 100 metres deep.

The drilling programme will focus on improving the resource and geotechnical understanding at Nautilus Minerals' Solwara 1 Project, as well as scout drilling at other prospects on the company's 100% owned tenements in the Bismarck Sea.

TSmarine will provide the vessel, operating crew, remotely operated vehicles and drilling equipment.

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV

It's not an AUV but an UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
