Veripos at SMM

  11/08/2010
Veripos is to feature its complete range of globalised services at this year's SMM (Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology) international marine trade fair in Hamburg, Germany, from 7th to 10th September (Hall B6, Stand 135).

Among new services featured as part of its continuous dual-beam coverage via a worldwide network of over 80 reference stations, with transmission on seven L-band satellites, will be Veripos Apex, the company's latest high-accuracy positioning service providing decimetre-level accuracies; complementing the company's existing Ultra service, it uses similar Precise Point Positioning (PPP) techniques for correction or modelling of all GNSS error sources.

New hardware exhibits include LD6, an advanced integrated mobile unit which can be configured with single or dual frequency GNSS receivers as well as optional reception modules for accepting corrections from Veripos HF service, MF beacon service and UHF correction sources. With outputs to external equipment and software for processing, the system is suitable for a wide range of applications, including dynamic positioning, hydrographic surveying, dredging, offshore construction and seismic exploration. It will be shown in association with a series of proprietary software options.

Hydrographic Survey of Riverbed Erosion

Members of the US Geological Survey were filmed while out on the Missouri River at Williston, North Dakota, USA, performing a hydrographic survey to monitor the state of riverbed erosion. They were using a multibeam echo sounder which transmits sound energy and analyses the return signal (echo) that has bounced off the riverbed or other objects. Multibeam sonars emit sound waves from directly beneath a ship's hull to produce fan-shaped coverage of the riverbed.

Gauge height at the Williston gauge was approximately 27.65 feet when this video was taken. Additional information about the USGS streamgauge at Williston is available at http://waterdata.usgs.gov/nd/nwis?program=nwisman&site_no=06330000
