Automatic Identification Systems for Romania08/09/2010 |
| Saab TransponderTech has received an order from the Romanian Naval Authority to supply AIS transponders for vessels operating on the country's inland and coastal waterways. Saab will supply 250 inland AIS transponders and 20 portable AIS units, which are type-approved to meet the European Union inland AIS standards. |
|
The on-board transponders will continually transmit the vessel's name, description, position coordinates, speed and heading, draft, length and hazardous cargo information to the maritime authorities. The vessel data is captured and displayed on electronic chart displays in traffic control centres.
Saab TransponderTech earlier installed the Romanian River Information System (RoRIS), which uses AIS and other sensors to provide surveillance and monitoring transiting the Romanian portion of the Danube River and the Black Sea coastline.
