Brazilian Navy Expanding SonarWiz 5 Use

  14/09/2010
Chesapeake Technology just has completed hands-on training in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) for the Brazilian Navy to support their expanding use of SonarWiz 5 sonar software solution. The Brazilian Navy Center of Hydrography (CHM), a CTI customer since 2005, is in the process of doubling the number of SonarWiz 5 licenses and hopes to standardise on it for all of their sonar work needed for geological mapping, mine detection, and updating of nautical charts.

The training included at-sea, hands-on use of SonarWiz 5 plus follow-up post-processing work. Attendees included hydrographers, geologists, geophysicists, military personnel, plus visiting scientists from CPRM, Brazil's geological service, and IPT, Technological Research Institution from Sao Paulo. A customised training event was also provided to long-time CTI customer C&C Technologies do Brasil, which is providing survey services to Brazil's largest oil company, PETROBRAS. According to C&C's Geosciences Manager, Sergio Henrique Nunes de Faria, SonarWiz 5 shows the easiest interface and is extremely helpful for interpreting side scan sonar and SBP data.

John Gann, CTI's co-founder and chief technology officer, conducted the training. He mentions that Brazil has one of the longest coast lines in the world and is thrilled that they want to standardise on SonarWiz 5 to support the extensive hydrographic activities in which they're engaged.
