BIRNS Achieves Certifications

  18/11/2010
BIRNS' entire team recently achieved new J-STD-001 Class 3 and WHMA-A-620-A Class 3 certification adding to the company's list of industry qualifications.

Birns technician at workThe J-STD-001 Class 3 is a standard prescribing practices and requirements for the manufacture of soldered electrical and electronic assemblies, and among the upper echelon of soldering certification in the marine market and for the DoD (Department of Defense). This standard is requisite for the highest level of reliability in manufacturing processes for those with assembly, testing and inspection functions responsible for ensuring the quality of all electronic and electrical assemblies, according to the IPC (the Association Connecting Electronics Industries-formerly known as the Institute for Interconnecting and Packaging Electronic Circuits.) A global organisation focused on standardising the assembly and production requirements of electronic equipment and assemblies, the IPC specifies that the Class 3 designation pertains to high performance electronic products, for which equipment downtime cannot be tolerated, end use environment is uncommonly harsh, and for life support and other critical systems.

The WHMA-A-620-A Class 3 is focused on requirement and acceptance specifically for cable and wire harness assemblies. It is a collection of electrical, visual and mechanical quality acceptability requirements prepared by the Industry Technical Guidelines Committee of the Wire Harness Manufacturers Association and the Product Assurance Committee of IPC. This certification also specifies products where continued performance and extended life is critical in extremely harsh environments and applications.
