BIRNS Wins ABS Approval19/04/2011 |
| BIRNS, a global innovator in the design and manufacture of unique lines of high performance lights, connectors, penetrators and custom cable assemblies, has received American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Product Design Assessment (PDA) Certification for its popular lines of penetrators. This certification process included rigorous testing and review by the national organisation, and resulted in ABS pre-approving all design, drawing and test procedures for BIRNS electrical penetrators and cable assemblies for underwater vehicles, systems and hyperbaric facilities for use on a variety of ABS-class vessels. |
PDA certification is yet another in a long line of design and testing milestones for the 57-year-old ISO 9001:2008-certified company. “We are honored to receive this prestigious certification for our penetrator design, drawing and testing protocols, and to have the opportunity to provide yet another industry benchmark of safety, high performance and excellence to our customers,” says Eric Birns, President and CEO. BIRNS does all penetrator testing in-house, witnessed and certified by ABS officials, and provides inclusive ABS lead times and pricing for such orders. The stringent testing procedures include high-pressure helium leak detection to the inboard side with multiple cycles of high-pressure saltwater to the outboard side, dielectric withstanding voltage and insulation resistance testing.
