Offshore Survey 2013 Launches Call for Papers

  22/06/2012
Offshore Survey, which takes place from 10 to 11 April 2013 alongside Ocean Business at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK, has launched a call for papers. Previous conferences accepted papers by invitation only.

Alastair MacDonald has handed over to Ed Danson, international sales manager of C&C Technologies, as the new conference chairman. Ed Danson brings a vast wealth of industry knowledge and energy to the conference, and is keen to continue with the same winning formula of previous years. He urges the offshore survey community to come forward with papers suitable for sessions on Subsea Positioning, Hydrographic and Seabed Survey, Survey Operations, Data Processing and Visualisation, and Industry and Professional Issues.

This will be the fourth Offshore Survey and it will introduce a technical committee made up of outstanding personalities from industry and academia to evaluate all the papers that are submitted.

Working in partnership with Offshore Survey, The Hydrographic Society UK will be directly involved in the technical committee, along with an exceptional line-up of world leaders in their field.  The Hydrographic Society UK will be represented by David Parker who is Civil Hydrography manager at the UKHO and also the chairman of THS UK; Helen Atkinson, Operations & Publications manager of both THS UK and the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies; and William Heaps, Assistant Marine Advisor & Hydrographic manager at ABP.  Academia will be represented by Brian Whiting, Principal Lecturer from the University of East London and representing the offshore industry will be Nick Hough, technical adviser at International Marine Contractors Association.  Industry representatives include Mike Baker, Group Business Development director at GEMS International NV, and Sam Hanton, chief surveyor at Nautronix.

One of the special attractions of Offshore Survey is that it runs alongside the Ocean Business exhibition, which provides a mix of technology and business for the delegates. Ocean Business 13 will be the biggest show yet, with the show’s dockside hall tripled in size and a new layout to make it a vibrant part of the show with dockside demonstration area and café. As in previous years, the show will include a full three-day programme of hands-on training and demonstration workshops, enabling buyers to actually test drive equipment before purchasing. Ocean Careers will also run over the three days to provide advice on career opportunities within the ocean technology, marine science and offshore industries. The combined events bring a lively social programme, culminating in a gala dinner held at Southampton’s Guildhall on Wednesday 10 April.

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV

It's not an AUV but an UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
