6G Order for SES06/08/2012 |
| Offshore survey and navigation equipment rental specialist Survey Equipment Services (SES, USA) is to add Sonardyne International 6G acoustic positioning technology to its rental pool. The order comprises ROVNav 6 LBL transceivers and Compatt 6 positioning transponders. |
|
With 30 years’ experience working with the oil and gas industry, SES specialises in the supply of marine navigation and hydrographic survey equipment. Gary Sayers, Engineering Manager at SES said that this is their first investment in 6G although the company have previously bought Sonardyne products for the equipment pool. This purchase is in recognition of the growing demand for 6G within the Gulf of Mexico.
6G products utilise Sonardyne’s ultra-wideband width, digital ranging and telemetry protocols developed to increase the precision, speed and reliability of acoustic positioning and aided inertial navigation operations. The platform has been proven to deliver significant operational savings, allowing multi-user subsea construction survey tasks to be completed in less time than was previously possible.

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV |
It's not an AUV but an UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
