Hunt for the USS Alligator

  16/10/2007

The US Navy's first submarine, USS Alligator, sunk off Cape Hatteras in 1863. NOAA, the US Navy and University of New Hampshire are locating it using multi-beam sonar and magnetometer. The film, produced by NOAA, also explains the influence of for example the weather.

Comments (1):

Having cut the tow line why would the Alligator promptly sink? The effort to recover this 100 year old submarine could and would only be carried out by a country and people with money to waste. Barry M. Lusk - 22/11/2007 - 22:39

Demo of RIEGL Airborne Bathy Scanner in Camcopter UAV

It's not an AUV but a UAV. So an unmanned vehicle, but in the air instead of underwater. This movie shows a demonstration of the bathymetric laser scanning capabilities of the RIEGL VQ-820-GU hydrographic airborne sensor in reality. For more information on the technical side, please see the news release on Hydro International.
