As it is known, tide gauges provide reliable real-time digital water level data of a few centimeters, at variable time increments. The problem is that they can only report the tidal condition at the place where they are located near inshore structures. In open sea, far away from their locations, tide gauges cannot define swell conditions. Nowadays it is common to use relied upon techniques such as RTK-GPS, centimeter level accuracies are attainable up to baselines of 20 km length from the base station. The limitation of using RTK-Tide gauge is the assumption that the separation between ellipsoid & the defined Chart Datum for the project area is kept fixed, i.e. the gradient of chart datum is equal zeros. This assumption degrades the computed RTK's tide by a value about 2cm/km away from the installed Tide Gauge.
The current research focuses on submitting an algorithm to predict the value of the Chart Datum's Gradient at each data point collected during the Bathymetry survey. Additionally, the research also evaluates the using of the New Earth Global Geoidal Model 2008 "EGM2008" for computing the ellipsoid-Chart Datum separation at nearby and far away to the coast. Finally, the research confirms the feasibility of using both the developed algorithm & the EGM2008 model in computing the tide by RTK.
