A survey of the impacts of the physical properties of water in the dam lakes in accordance with the results of the echo sounding and reservoir capacities

Organisation: University of Tehran
In current hydrographic conditions and in determining the topographical bed of reservoir dams, the usually common and probably the most precise method present, for estimating and computing the volume of reservoir water, is the amount of sedimentation residue. Generally, majority of the experts and hydrographic surveying data users of reservoirs, have encountered serious discussions and challenges in respect with the hydrographic surveying results. Whereas, various surveying results, being contradictory at times, in regard, the periodical survey of the dam reservoirs, by engineering consultants and water research institutes during the past years, incurring colossal costs that have come to hand and have incremented doubts in this concern. In actual fact, how can this question be answered? In this article, we have made an effort to indicate one of the most critical effective factors in determining the reservoir volume accurately, so that reverent readers could obtain a better perception, in relative to the manner of surveying work performance of dam reservoirs. Ultimately, it shall be demonstrated that confirming the exact velocity of sound in several layers of water of the dam lakes during hydrography, is a necessitation for any accurate and standard hydrographic surveying, as well as sedimentation sensing in reservoirs.
