ECDIS NX Debuts at Nor-Shipping

Raytheon Anschütz, Germany, has launched the new ECDIS NX software on the opening day of Nor-Shipping 2017. SYNAPSIS ECDIS NX offers a modern design, user intuitiveness and ‘smart’ functionality to simplify processes and routines aboard ships. Raytheon Anschütz developed the software leveraging user participation and feedback from user workshops. This input, incorporated within an agile development process, resulted in an intuitive user interface, a clearly structured display and consistent operational concepts.

Raytheon Anschütz received type approval for SYNAPSIS ECDIS NX in accordance with the latest ECDIS standards in May 2017. ECDIS NX is available stand-alone in Q3 2017, and with full INS integration from end of the year. Visitors to Nor-Shipping can experience hands-on demonstrations at booth B03-16.

ECDIS NX includes smart functionality to simplify routines aboard. For example, ECDIS NX route monitoring and track control with maximum chart display; a Quick Access bar allows one-click-access to frequently-used functions such as chart settings, EBL/VRM, ZOOM and more. Users can decide to hide and unhide further panels with indications or operation control. Similarly smart-enabled, route planning is now a wizard-guided process and further utilises intuitive principles such as drag-and-drop for waypoints. Other feature enhancements include a self-explaining route manager and comprehensive voyage planning tools.

Additional functions, traditionally associated with Integrated Navigation Systems (INS), are available for stand-alone systems. These functions evaluate the various data within the navigation system and provide the operator with consistent, distinct and validated information, while preventing any distraction from unnecessary alarms.
