Hydrographic Society Denmark

We Salute the Retired Surveyor
What has happened to the Danish input in the year 2005?
The main reason may be that the Hon. Secretary Hugo Meister has taken leave from his work due to cancer. Hugo ended his employment at EIVA A/S as of 1 October 2005 after more than a half-year absence due to his illness.
Hugo is now at least a step in the right direction: he is doing some ‘retirement’ work at home and we hope he will be able to continue his effort for HSD and some of his many other activities.

Workshops
Do remember - AGM 2005 for HSD. Date and Workshop subject will be announced by mail.

The Retired Old Surveyor
Most people in the Hydrographic world know me just as Hugo and I am happy with that.
As one of the founders of the Danish Society and representative for the HSD in the previous Council of THS, I am well known in this circle too. I have also been one of the ‘advocates’ for the new organisation, The Federa-tion. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make the last step during 2005 with the others in the Council. I have had the option to follow most of the mail correspondence with all the good progress that has been made.

After having been in the hydrographics game for almost 50 years, it is now time to step down. I had planned to be among the active group for some more years, but my 30–40 cigarettes a day has caught up with me. The year 2005 has seen me in and out of hospitals fighting cancer, but I can now see some light in front of me and I look forward to the coming year 2006.

The Hydrographic Society Denmark is unfortunately not a strong and active society, given that the number of members is relative low and the main financial foundation is the few co-operative members from the Danish environmental and marine industries.
Such a structure of the HSD leads to the society’s work being carried on a few people’s shoulders in their spare time. Considering that I am now the only retired person in the organisation, all others have to use their spare time, I fear, for the future of our society.
We need more new and younger people for the society’s work if we are to keep the organisation alive. Let’s see if the coming AGM can make my suspicion disappoint my expectations.
If my future turns out as I hope it does, I look forward to continuing my efforts for our HSD.
