The purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the activities of the company and to establish partner relations in the interest of navigation-hydrographic maintenance of sea activities and the development of Hydrography in Russia.

The general director of the company, Mr Artyom Melnikov, together with his assistants welcomed the visitors to a conference hall. He introduced the company Fertoing, which is a versatile engineering organisation. It has been operating a separate entity since 2006. Earlier it was part of the company Morstroy.

The company has 110 employees. Almost half of them (45 employees) work in the hydrographic department, the others in the following departments: underwater-technical works, engineering - geological research, navigating equipment and experimental - industrial.
In Russia the company is represented in Murmansk, Sochi and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In 2011, Fertoing experts worked in 15 seaports of Russia. Since 2008, some students from the Admiral Makarov State Maritime Academy in St. Petersburg have been training in the field. By 2011 there were already 20 students. In February 2012, the management of the company plans to hold a Scientific-technical conference with the participation of foreign suppliers of technical equipment. In addition, the establishment of a center for training of experts - hydrographers is planned.

Development director Ilya Logvinov (in 2005 he was awarded the HSR Honourable Diploma named after professor A.P. Belobrov) described the technological developments of the company. Then a tour of the office premises was given. The final official part of the visit took place in the meeting hall of the company, followed by an informal part in the restaurant.

On leaving the company the HSR members were very satisfied. It was pleasant to see that Fertoing employees, led by the general director Mr A.J. Melnikov, have achieved fruitful co-operation with other organisations and maintain their main objective – the performance of work and research in the interest of their native land.
