QPS Appoints Co-managing Directors in European and American Offices

Almar Hollaar and Dr Jonathan Beaudoin have started at QPS as co-managing directors in the European and American offices, respectively. Their promotions follow Tomas Hjelmberg's move to 100% director of Maritime Traffic Management Product Area, of which QPS is one part.

In their new roles as co-directors, Almar will focus on the operational aspects of the European team and Jonathan will focus on the North American team. What does this mean for QPS customers? The regional operational focus will allow the company to improve its responsiveness to customers, both in terms of delivering software that meets their needs and also in delivering great customer service.

Almar has been working at QPS as head of customer support, and Jonathan as head of product management and QPS chief scientist.

Almar Hollaar

Prior to joining QPS, Almar worked offshore as a freelance surveyor with wide exposure to QPS products in a variety of settings. This includes site surveys, rock dumping, dredging, pipeline surveys, seismic, rig moves, harbour and offshore construction. Almar joined the QPS support team in 2005. He was instrumental in championing and implementing the QPS software testing department and the automated testing infrastructure that is now routinely used for all products in QPS.

In 2013, Almar was appointed the Head of the Customer Support department. Almar oversaw the integration and deployment of a common customer support system after the acquisition of IVS 3D, as well as building a support team across both Europe and North America. He has created the QPS Onsite Service Team of junior support personnel working with clients in the field for installations where deep technical knowledge of QPS software is of benefit during mobilisation. Since starting, the team has grown sixfold with consistent positive reviews from customers. Almar has worked at QPS for 12 years and he is eager to create one big team focusing on customers’ needs.

Jonathan Beaudoin

Jonathan earned a PhD in the field of Marine Geomatics from the University of New Brunswick (UNB, Fredericton, Canada), specialising in multibeam data processing and analysis. After UNB, Jonathan worked as a researcher at the University of New Hampshire (UNH, Durham, USA) for nearly four years, building upon his body of work developed at UNB. During his time in academia, Jonathan participated in over forty research mapping cruises, many of which were Sea Acceptance Trials which relied on his skill set as an expert multibeam data analyst. He also ran a side consultancy with thirty significant projects in which he provided specialized data processing, analysis and trouble shooting.

Jonathan joined QPS in 2014 and put his multibeam knowledge to work immediately by making many improvements in our Geocoder implementation, FMGT. He also played a key technical and advisory role in the design and implementation of Qimera, eventually becoming the Qimera Product Manager shortly after its launch in 2015. In late 2016, he was appointed head of Product Management, a role in which he works with development, support and sales staff to achieve our goals and desires for the entire product line. His primary focus the past year has been to guide the Product Management team to build new and innovative workflows between the products.
