Canada Invests in Maritime Security

Mr. Ed Fast, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry, has announced significant investments in Canada's aerospace and defence sector by confirming CAD200 million in funding for the Strategic Aerospace and Defence Initiative (SADI) and announcing a repayable investment of CAD1.8 million in research and development being undertaken by AXYS Technologies.

The AXYS Technologies' Port Waterside - Communications and Networked Data Unification project will work to collaborate data from various monitoring and surveillance sources to provide comprehensive real-time information. This technology will help defence and security organizations, port operators and other stakeholders to improve maritime security and respond promptly to security incidents such as illegal shipping, discharge of pollutants at sea, oil spills and severe weather threats.

SADI supports strategic industrial research and pre-competitive development projects in the aerospace, defence, space and security industries. SADI is managed by the Industrial Technologies Office, a special operating agency of Industry Canada with a mandate to advance leading-edge research and development by Canadian industries.
